Slab/Footing/Fill Definition

Swell/Collapse is calculated below slab-on-grade and footing. Footing depth and fill depth below slab or footing are defined in this dialog.

If compacted fill is also swell/collapsible, Soil Type ID for compacted fill should be assigned. This ID should be different from those used in soil layers. The compression curves for fill are usually from consolidation tests of remolded samples representing the relative compaction of the compacted fill.

Swell/Collapse Pattern

Three patterns are available. These patterns show the saturated zone in soil layer. The 100% means fully saturated and 100% of swell/collapse will happen. The first pattern can be used for the case that water source is at depth of Z, e.g., leaked water pipe, and the water will not reach ground surface. If water reaches ground surface, it may be Pattern 2.  If water source is from ground surface, it's Pattern 3.
